Books Or Internet

Published
2 min read

Some days ago - I was reading about some great programmers like - "Linus torvalds", "Brian keith reid", "Richard stallman" and others. Then suddenly a point got into my mind and that is.

"How did people gained info when there was not internet"? Today, I can just press some buttons and get information in all the forms - text, audio, video, pdf etc. I was going to post this question on quora but then I thought let's research first and I found a same question.

Answer was - "We used to go library and read lot of books and as a result we gained lot more knowledge than required". I was quite astonished.

As book have it's own limitations like:

  1. It takes time in publishing new editions.

  2. It takes a lot of time.

  3. If we are reading books - it will surely take our time and someone else will research on internet and apply the knowledge.

  4. How many books to read and from where to read?

These were the limitations that I was thinking but after discussing with some people I got to know "If you want to dive deeper then you must learn from books". Yes books take time and yes they take time to get updated but the point is: "Dive deep".

  1. See if I read some book or something online - then it is fair chance that I will not understand complete point of view of the author and If I am writing a blog - I will change the sense.

  2. Tiktok - changed the tech (People are enjoying short content) and they want everything to be short. So content creator focuses on creating short content and just posting. So we are again far away from in depth knowledge.

According to me - we must learn from books if we want to dive deep and not only dive deep but if we are trying to get specialized in a tech stack or something. We must read history of computers so that we get to know - how far we have come and what are the limitations still pursuing.

We must use internet 30% and books 70%, We will gain more knowledge from book. Also books are well researched and written after reading tons of sources material so again better perspective and deep dive.

Do you read books? And what you think about this? comment down!
